Füssen

From München (aka Munich) I took the train out to Füssen. I had a failed attempt to take the train out to a small town from Salzburg to go see something. That time I got off the train and there were no tourist information points, no directions to anywhere, and no employees at the train station. I didn't want to take a bus because I didn't know where I needed to go. So, I took the train back to Salzburg.

This time, however, I decided I would rent a bike and take it on the train. I rented a bike in Munich and took it on the train to head out to Füssen. My trip out to Füssen was a much different story than my trip out to Golling. There were many English speaking people on the train and everyone was headed to the same place I was. Also, as soon as I got off the train there was a mountain bike shop. I figured with my cruiser bicycle I might look like a local since I obviously didn't rent it at the bike shop in town. After taking my bike out quite a ways where the path got pretty steep, I felt I looked more like an idiot, sitting upright and with my arms wide open riding on a cruiser up a mountain. Then I figured maybe I looked the local idiot which would have been fine. I'm just teasing. I didn't care what I looked like, I was having fun. I was very glad I rented the bike.

Also, I had the intention of doing some biking through Scotland and going on a tour or something. Well, here in Munich they advertised all over for a tour out to where I was going. The bike shop I was renting the bike from advertised it. The tour was 49 Euro though! When I was renting the bike for 12 Euro the guy asked if I was doing any tours, I replied no I wasn't going to do any tours and he said, "Well, you don't get a discount then." Haha... a discount on a €12 bike rental after paying €49. Anyway, I was talking about Scotland biking. Well, it took me until now to know what to do with my stuff when I am not staying in town for the night. I stayed in Füssen last night but I didn't want to take all my stuff out there, and on the bike too, so I just checked it into a locker here at the station in Munich. It has been such a breeze to have it in that locker. I am going to do that more often. Especially when I get into a town that I don't know for sure where I am going.

Back to the Füssen story:

My main goal out here was to see the Neuschwanstein Castle. There is another castle in the same area and a lake. The weather was very foggy which wasn't a big deal to me since it kinda gave the whole area an ethereal feeling. The lake is called Alpsee and I guess there are wild swans that inhabit it. I got in and skipped some rocks. It was warm, too! Not warm enough to swim though.

Can you see it?

Josh,

Last summer we flew into Munich. I wanted to see the large technical museum on the island downtown in the middle of the river. There is a great exhibit there of a homebuilt airplane a man from East Germany made so he could fly his family to freedom. They were discovered and imprisoned before they could escape.

We did not go to Neuschwanstein, but did go to Augsburg. The Augsburg Confession was presented there. We also saw a museum to the Roman occupation era there.

Josh,

I do not know about Austria, but in Germany there is usually a stand or booth or office somewhere for tourist information. Look for a blue "i" (for "information") on a white background.

Thank you for your comments, Pastor. I would enjoy seeing where the Augsburg Confession took place and I'm finding there are more and more things I would like to see. Thank you for your comments, I always enjoy reading them. Alanna, I enjoy your comments too! :P :D
